Will Goralski Studios buy my sold out print?
Goralski Studios does not typically buy aftermarket art. However we do encourage collectors to connect with each other. (Coming Soon “The Goralski Exchange”)
What is my sold out print worth?
There are a number of factors that determine the value of a sold out print. Perhaps the most important factor is scarcity verses market demand. Another-words there is not enough prints available to fill the demand. For example, if an artist produces 100 prints and 300 hundred collectors would like to buy, this leaves 200 collectors in demand of a print. Those 200 collectors have no choice but to search the after market for the print. They need to contact a collector to purchase one of the 100. Its now up to the owner of that print to set the price. They may now want double what the original issue price was. There are contributing factors that cause a print to rise in value. The following are just a few in no particular order.
- The success of the artist (Is the artist well known and does he have an established track record of sold out editions.)
- Death of the artist (There will always be a spike in demand upon the death of an artist.)
- Popularity of the Athlete (Is he well liked by the general sports enthusiast, does he have charisma.)
- Is the athlete at the height of his career? (Is he or she considered to be one of the best in their particular sport.)
- Is the athlete receiving good media attention? (Are favorable stories being published.)
However, there are some prints that do not go up in value or even drop in value, there are many reasons for this.
- The artist releases artwork that is not attractive to collectors for whatever reason.
- The artist releases to large of an edition size for market demand (Dealers may begin to discount below issue price.)
- Dealers may discount by offering sales to increase cash flow.
- Is the athlete receiving bad media attention? (Are unfavorable stories being published?)
- Popularity of the Athlete (An athlete can loose popularity for many reasons, all athletes have an ebb and flow in terms of popularity.)
- Does the athlete over saturate the market with autographs? (To many autographs can contribute to discounting and counterfeiting.)
What are secondary market or after market prints?
Secondary market prints are prints that are sold out by the artist.
Issue pricing and secondary market values
Andrew Goralski Studios establishes issue and fair market pricing for all prints and originals produced. Issue prices are set when a new edition is released. The issue price is typically the retail price of the art. Issue prices are determined by the past performance and current demand for the artists work. Issue prices are also determined by the demand of the specific athlete portrayed in the print.
Secondary prices are established by individuals who own a particular sold out print. Once an edition is sold out, Goralski Studios does not have control over the after market price. After market prices may vary greatly because the fee is entirely up to the seller.
